Creative Edges: Notebook Die on a Scrapbook Layout

by Terhi Koskinen

Hey there lovely Altenew Fans!

Terhi Koskinen here today, sharing my thoughts and ideas of one of the new dies released just couple days ago. Creative Edges: Notebook Die.  I'm a big fan of all kind of layers and details on all crafty projects I do, so this die gave me instant inspiration to try creating layered background with it.

Notebook_Terhi-1First I planned to cut the stripes and use some for the background, partly layered on top of each other, create a grid kind of pattern or something else fun. But then the real idea hit me: textured paper, with many many layers.

If you take a close look to the die you'll see there is the cutting line and a stitched line. I really didn't know which to choose from two fun and beautiful sides, so I used both. I cut papers same long as the die is, and about one inch wide, the used my cutting machine with the die and received to wonderful stripes of paper.

Notebook_Terhi-3The next phase was to use double sided tape (choose glue if you prefer) to adhere the stripes one by one on a paper or cardstock. I cut the paper edges straight and other to circle shape, to make a neat and tidy look. The photograph is such a polite family portrait, that too messy look wasn't an option.

Notebook_Terhi-5I think these textured papers looks so pretty! To highlight the stripes I chose one of my favorite papers from the Our Family Scrapbook Collection, the one with the rainbow colors. The embellishments, wooden buttons and acetate butterfly are both from Reflection Scrapbook Collection. I like to be bold and mix these two, they are great together!

This is amazing, Terhi! I’m especially impressed with the paper layering on the die cut circle – it looks like a rainbow of scales! SO pretty 🙂

Lovely layout Terhi, I also love how you layered the notebook die on the die cut, gorgeous and in such soft beautiful colors. I must get back into scrap booking, haven’t done any for 6 years since my son out grew and refused to have pics taken lol! I love the journaling pages that are being created these days, I’ll have to pull out my paper and do some for myself!

What an interesting addition to your layout. I love it! I volunteer in a kindergarten and that would be a great die for me to use. Am making memory books for the end of the year.
