June Guest Designer: Soraya Maes

by Flora Monika Farkas

Hello, ladies! Welcome to our June Guest Designer post!

Today, we would like to introduce the talented Soraya Maes from France. She has a unique and remarkable style. Her creations always include light mixed media which makes her layouts charming. We are pretty sure you will like what she prepared for you here on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog. But, first, let’s learn more about her!

Get to know Soraya!

Hi, everyone! My name is Soraya Maes. I’m living on the French Riviera, Southern France with my husband and our two kids. I started scrapbooking in 2005 but this has always been a part of me since I started documenting my everyday life and special moments in notebooks when I was 11. This is probably why I love journaling so much! Now I’m a lucky full-time scrapbooker and author (my first book was released last month!) and I love this life!

I’m so excited to be a guest designer. I just love everything Altenew makes; there is so much inspiration!

Soraya’s Scrapbook Layout

The peonies from Peony Spray Stamp Set are the stars of my layout! I played with the stamp and the coordinating die to create this colorful bouquet. I also played with the gorgeous Reflection Scrapbook Kit and its multiple treasures.

The background is made of watercolor transfer and heat embossing. You can see the whole process in the video I made for you!

I stamped and cut 4 peonies to create the pretty bouquet. I just love how easy it is to get lots of perfect peonies! The coordinating Peony Spray Die Set is definitely a must-have!

I could have added lots of cute embellishments like stickers and chipboards from Reflection Scrapbook Collection but my heart goes to those Puffy Alpha Stickers!

I also have a process video to share. You can watch it here or in HD on Youtube.

Soraya’s Cards

The Hug Me Stamp Set is so adorable that I wanted to use it in 3 different ways with 3 different backgrounds: papers, stencils, and embossing. They are so versatile that I could make it clean and simple or messy!

The coloring part was my favorite! As you can see in the video, I used watercolor for the « Hug Me » card. I also added more dimension to the image using vellum and foam tape. The background is simple but the little blue clouds make all the difference.

The « You & Me » card is a simple design, yet a little bit more than that thanks to the puffy clouds in the background. I drew and cut some curves on a heavy cardstock to create this shape: very fun and easy! I love the balloons so much – this stamp is really my favorite from the set!

This card is messier than the others with this rainbow and embossed background, with the « I Miss You » sentiment stamped several times and also with the black splatters. Messy but cute!

Check out my process video as well. You can watch it here or in HD on YouTube.

Thank you so much for having me! It was such an honor to create with Altenew products! It was also a great challenge for me to make English videos! I hope you will like them and pardon me for my French accent, haha! Happy creating everyone!

How stunning are her projects?! We love Soraya's lovely and soft layout that features her and her beautiful daughter. The colorful and fun cards are really amazing. Someone will be very happy to receive them. Thank you so much, Soraya, for being our awesome June Guest Designer!

Gorgeous cards & layout, not only the colours which are so bright & cheerful but all the ideas you put together ❤. I struggle with my layouts, they are either too crowded or bare, I do not seen to get it right, any tips ? Look forward to seeing more of your work x
