Guest Designer: Nathalie DeSousa

by Altenew

Hello, lovely ladies! We are so thrilled to have another Guest Designer this month!

Today, we would like to introduce the talented Nathalie DeSousa. She has a unique, easy, and vibrant style that make everything pop out from the page. She loves documenting precious moments not just in scrapbook pages, but in her handy traveler's notebook as well! You will absolutely love what she has prepared for you here on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog. But, first, let’s learn more about her!

Get to know Nathalie!

Hello everyone! I’m Nathalie (a.k.a. Tachita – my nickname since birth) a stay-at-home wife and mom to two teenagers and our Boston Terrier baby. I have been enamored with paper, photography, and journaling since I was a small girl back in my native Ecuador. My need to document my kids' every moment led me into scrapbooking and, nowadays, you can find me at the dining room table drinking black coffee and documenting my every moment in my traveler’s notebooks and scrapbook pages.

I was floored when I was asked to be a guest designer as I have been a fan and collector of Altenew products for quite some time. I just love their beautiful products and tried my best to show how versatile they can be when documenting your everyday moments in different formats.

Nathalie’s Scrapbook Layout

This first project uses the beautiful Leaf Canopy and Dream Big Stamp Set to recreate a magical moment during our last family vacation.

The watercolor background of this page was created using a few colors of Altenew inks. I mixed in some different stamped images of the leaves from the Leaf Canopy Stamp Set to create depth and interest behind the embossed vellum leaves. This was my way of recreating a small piece of the background of the picture.

The beautiful resin frames from the Reflection Scrapbook Collection are ideal to bring to focus the subject of this layout. The small butterflies created using the Dream Big Stamp and Die Set are the perfect embellishments to complement the scene behind the picture.

I used a few embellishments from the Reflection Scrapbook Collection to decorate the layout and chose to combine one of the acetate words with the sentiment from the Mini Hello Stamp Set and some embellishments from the Charmed Stamp Set too.

Love how this layout turned out. The color of the inks, the soft layered leaves, the butterflies, and all the soft embellishments just combine to recreate this sweet memory. The following video will show you how the layout came together. Watch it below or on in HD Altenew's YouTube page:

Nathalie's Traveler’s Notebook Layouts

I love the versatility that Altenew products offer. One of my favorite ways to use them is in my Traveler’s Notebooks, so I wanted to share with you a few pages from my personal journal.

This page is all about celebrating family love. I started by using the Flat and Fold Alpha Die to create the title for this page. The colors in the Reflection Scrapbook Collection were perfect to complement those of the pictures.

Next, I used the Charmed Stamp Set to create a soft stamped border along the edges of the layout, as to frame the page. Then I used some of the Altenew Mini Cube Inks to add a soft watercolor look to just the centers of the flowers.

The soft tones in the stamped background are perfect to bring focus to the picture and title on this entry. I just love how this turned out! Watch the video below or in HD on Altenew's YouTube page:

My last project is all about celebrating summer and all those sweet treats. This time, I wanted to make the treat the star of the page, so I pulled the Summer Swirls Stamp Set to create this page.

The sentiments in the Summer Swirls Stamp Set were used to create the background of one of the Traveler's Notebook pages. The subtle look of the background is a great place to bring the title to focus. I stamped one of the ice cream cone images on white cardstock and used various Altenew inks to add color and details on the image.

Once again, I used the papers and embellishments from the Reflection Scrapbook Collection to frame the picture of this spread. In addition, I used the Leaf Canopy Stamp Set to add a heartfelt sentiment to this spread.

I really love how this turned out. All the colors and sentiments from the Altenew products are just the perfect complement to this sweet picture. You can see how this page was created in the following video. Watch it below or in HD on Altenew's YouTube page:

It has been a pleasure working on these projects for Altenew. Thank you so much for having me as a guest. I am forever your fan!

I had to come back and tell you that I used the leaf canopy layout as inspiration for a journal page. When I get it posted on my facebook I will tag you so you can see it. Your technique stuck in my mind so I had to search the blog to find it. Now I pinned it! thanks as always for sharing.

I luv you videos … you are so creative … One question though, I’m very new to water coloring and was wondering what water color paper do you use? The water and colors flow so beautifully! I don’t get that type of movement … am I using wrong water color paper, not enough water …. I’m lost! Thanks for your help … so beautiful!

Hi, I used Vicki Boutin’s foundation paper. It is 140lb, so it holds mixed media well, plus it has a coating that resist water a bit better than others.. If you can’t find that, then try Bazzill Marshmallow or a watercolor paper ( Prima is my favorite, as it comes bound on all edges, so no too much buckle)…. Hope that helps
