December Guest Designer: Elsie Robinson

by Altenew

Hello everyone! Welcome to our December Guest Designer Post. We are thrilled to have another brilliant Guest Designer this month.

Today, we would like to introduce the incredibly talented Elsie Robinson. Her layouts are colorful with layers upon layers of elements. And her attention to detail is phenomenal. Have a quick look at her Instagram feed and you will know what we mean. You will love what she has to share today because we are swooning!

Get to know Elsie!

Hi everyone! I’m so happy to be guest designing for Altenew! My name is Elsie, I’m in my early 20s, and I live near the seaside in Brighton, United Kingdom with my little rescue pup, Betty! I started scrapbooking a couple of years ago and it was love at first layout and I haven’t stopped crafting since! I love anything floral, glitter, and hand-stitching, and I had so much fun creating these projects for Altenew. Hope you enjoy them!

Wanderlust Layout

For this layout, I was inspired by the travel theme in the Reflection Scrapbook Collection. I hand-stitched this “Wanderlust” cut file with some white thread for some added texture. To back the letters, I decided to create my own patterned paper by doing some heat embossing on vellum with white embossing powder, using the cute Hello Sunshine Stamp Set. I adore this subtle and romantic look.

To embellish the page, I fussy-cut lots of those beautiful roses and clustered them around my large title. I chose to use a woodgrain patterned paper for my background, as I love the way the vellum title looks on top of it.

Watercolor Flowers Layout

For my next layout, I couldn’t resist doing some watercoloring. I am by no means a watercolor expert and so what I love about the Botanical Garden and Wild Hibiscus stamp sets is that there’s already loads of detail on these floral images, so all you need to add is some simple washes of color to get a really beautiful effect.

Coloring these flowers was so fun and relaxing and I really wanted to make them the star of my page so I kept this layout simple.

I used a couple of the sticker frames from the Our Family Scrapbook Collection and backed one with my photo, and the other with a typed quote. I clustered the watercolor flowers around these frames and I absolutely love the bright and fun result.

Mini Albums

For my final project, I created three mini albums, with each of them following the same simple design/construction.

I was inspired by all of the gorgeous patterned papers Altenew has to offer, and I wanted to use as many as I possibly could in one go!

For the full tutorial and flip-through of all three albums, you can check out the video I uploaded on the Altenew YouTube channel. But I kept the embellishing of these albums very simple because I know that the three little ones I gave these albums to will want to add their own photos and journaling.

So I created things like pockets from patterned papers and vellum, labels, flip pockets, and some DIY notepads which I created by sewing small squares of copy paper together, which all helped maximize the space they have to draw/write/collage/add their photos to. And, to add some shimmer and shine to all of the pages, I heat embossed the florals from the Wild Hibiscus and Botanical stamp sets with gold embossing powder.

Here are a couple more photos:

Thanks, Altenew for having me, and for letting me create with your wonderful products!

Such brilliant projects! Love, love, love everything you made, Elsie! Please leave a bit of love for Elsie in the comments and let her know how amazing her projects look! You can also check out her Instagram, Blog, YouTube, and Pinterest for more inspiration.

I love the mini album since it’s so simple. I decided to try one myself but found the patterned paper was too thin so I had to reinforce it with cardstock as the cover but with the patterned paper on the outside.

How did you stitch the paper together? How did you attach the vellum as pockets, just with glue or another adhesive? Thanks!
