Hi everyone! Welcome to our January Guest Designer post. We have the lovely Raquel Bowman as our guest. You would already know her because she has been our guest designer previously as well! We absolutely love her and invited her to share her gorgeous work again. If you missed her work last time, you can have a quick look at her Instagram feed. Her work speaks for itself! Her layouts have an amazing sense of balance and just the right amount of embellishments. The sketches for her layouts are also quite brilliant!
Get to know Raquel!
Hey everyone, my name is Raquel Bowman. I am a 30-something primary school teacher, mummy to two kiddies (Jack, 4, and Charlotte, nearly 6) and wife to Clint, living in Geelong in Australia. I admit, I am pretty obsessed with scrapbooking and love nothing more than playing with a variety of papers and embellishments and making pretty stuff. I have been scrapping for around fourteen years now and feel I have finally ‘found’ my style. I’m a lover of layers, cut files, and clusters and enjoy adding little details while still maintaining white space, balance and cleanliness to my layouts. I am so grateful and honored to be able to represent some amazing brands and companies that I love through this craft.
Raquel's “Sweet” Layout
Hi everyone! I am so honored to be sharing a project on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog today as a guest designer for January. I have loved Altenew products for a long time now and always feel very grateful when I am asked to share projects with you using their amazing products.
Here is the layout that I created:
The subject of my layout is my little girl. This was taken on a very recent family holiday where we visited a local coastal town. I used the 6×6 paper pad called Celebrations available in the Altenew store. I loved the pinks and yellows in the patterned designs that were complemented with pops of black and white. The papers actually influenced my paper choice. It is always really exciting when you find a patterned paper or papers that work so well with a photo.
The main design of the layout is a vertical design. I chose to use three of the patterned papers in the paper pack to be featured. One of the papers, the pink and yellow watercolor, I fussy cut to look like I had used mixed media materials behind the photo. I always tend to print my photos with a white border – this allows me to use any patterned design directly behind the photo without overpowering the photo.
A recent Altenew release was a set of scrapbook embellishments; these included sticker butterflies, acetate butterflies, wood veneers and enamel dots. I chose to use the pink butterflies from the stickers, the wood veneer, and the enamel dots to embellish my page. You can see in the image above that the ‘sweet' wood veneer acts as part of the title with the ‘you' spelled out using the Our Family Scrapbook Collection Chipboard Stickers.
I enjoyed using the new embellishments on this layout. I think this layout really allowed them to shine. I also used the date stamp which was included in the Reflection Scrapbook Collection kit. I love the month font on this one, don't you?
Above you can get a close-up look at the new Watercolor Butterfly Cardstock Stickers. You may notice that the butterfly sticker has some dimension. This is because I used a power tool to remove the adhesive off the stickers. This allows me to use the sticker like a die-cut before committing to its placement. This also gives me the opportunity to add dimension, like I have on this layout and use foam adhesive under the wings to make them look raised up.
Thank you so much for visiting the Altenew Scrapbook Blog today. I hope that my layout has inspired you! Thank you again to Altenew for having me, it is always a pleasure!
Raquel also has a process video for you! You can watch it below or watch it in HD on YouTube.
