January 2019 Watercolor Brush Markers Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

by Lilith Eeckels

Welcome to the January 2019 Watercolor Brush Markers release. If you have hopped over from Anna Komenda‘s blog, you are right on track. You can also start the hop over on the Altenew Card Blog.

This release features our new watercolor brush markers set, Winter Wonderland, and comes with 10 stunning colors. The barrel is filled with water-based color and coordinates with our line of inks. The flexible, yet sturdy bristles on the brush tip allow you to form both broad and fine strokes. Color can be applied straight from the marker, or diluted with water for a softer look.

Before you hop along, check out the intro video below to see what this set has to offer. You can also watch it in HD on YouTube.

I created two layouts with these Watercolor Brush Markers. One can be seen below and the other is on my personal blog. They are such fun to use.

How to:

  1. Take a sheet of watercolor paper and start drawing the leaves with some water and a watercolor brush. This will make the coloring easier.
  2. Start adding color. I used the lightest shade first and added richer colors afterward.
  3. Add the stem with some Espresso Watercolor.
  4. Put together the layout. I added some acetate butterflies from the Butterfly Acetate Die Cuts pack. A stamp from the Gradient Sunset Stamp Set adds detail to the top and bottom and also creates flow.

I love how simple the layout is and I really loved painting those leaves.

You can see how the layout came together in the video below or watch it in HD on YouTube.

I’m a novice watercolor painter, just getting started. I’ve seen these watercolor pens advertised and I’m very curious about them. I bet they are great for traveling… I’m going to Puerto Rico next month. I’d love to try them out!!

Lilith, I loved seeing your video showing how you painted the leaves and then added the stamping creating the gorgeous background for your photo scrap page! Good to know about starting with plain water for those leaves. And how you had a pallet of color to dip the waterbrush into! I love the way your colors blended and loved how you added the natural grass looking stamps to 2 corners AND how you drew some lines on the other corners. It was fun to see how you placed your artwork against several backgrounds! Thanks so much for sharing!
