Get to know Vicki!
Hi friends! Vicki B. here! A girl who loves COLOR, pattern, and anything “artsy”! My true passion is mixed media art and creating projects to inspire crafters to pull out their supplies, stamps, and stencils, and make! I live minutes from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada with my two teens and my husband. Traveling and photography are two of my favorite things to do and I like to combine them with crafting and teach workshops worldwide. I am currently working on organizing my brand new craft studio so I can actually get in there and start making a mess!
I am an avid lover of ALL Altenew products and I am super excited to be a Guest Designer for July! Let’s get some inky fingers!
Let's check out Vicki's projects!
“Just Smile” Layout
Scrapbooking is one of my favorite pastimes and I ADORE integrating stamps and stamping techniques! For this layout, I grabbed the “A Study in Watercolor” stamp set with the coordinating dies and decided to focus on the “negative” space for my design.
First, I stamped and embossed the solid floral pattern with white embossing powder. I created a pattern down the right side of the page.
I found that masking a few areas and then stamping and embossing them helped to create a “fuller” appearance. Once I was happy with the pattern, I placed watercolor on a plastic sheet and “kissed it to the background”. I went with three colors and built depth by drying between layers.
I tied the color of the painted side in with some strips from the Summer Garden 6×6 Paper Pack. This set contains BEAUTIFUL watercolor patterns.
To “ground” my photos, I stamped one of the more simple images in black and die cut them. I arranged them using 3D foam squares around the cluster of photos on my page.
The title is from the Halftone Smile Stamp Set. I stamped it in a coordinating color and die cut it. Then I layered it with other stamps from the set.
I LOVE how this turned out!!! Soft, pretty, and a TON of fun to create.
My thinking for the card was to show how to use the exact same technique but on a card. Simple, time-effective, and clever, right? I am often asked by card-markers “I don’t scrapbook, can I make cards?” and vice versa from the page makers. The answer is always… “Of course!!!” This was a perfect opportunity to show that!
I simplified the pattern due to the scale of the card and did an “ombre” watercolor technique on the title.
Lickety-split!! Two projects done! Love that! Sometimes it’s not about re-inventing the wheel and more about getting as much accomplished in the little time we get to craft.
Thanks so much to Altenew for inviting me to play! And thanks for allowing me to share a sample of creations using these fabulous products!!!
