Hello, Altenew friends! Welcome to our September 2019 Guest Designer post.
This month’s guest designer is Irit Landgraf! We have an amazing mixed media artist today! She has been our Guest Designer twice (May 2018 and October 2018) and she’s a regular hopper too. Her projects are always bursting with bright and vibrant colors and her watercoloring skill is top-notch! If you want to take a quick look at her creative work, head over to her Instagram feed and get ready to be amazed.
Get to know Irit!
Hi! I’m Irit, mother of 2 lovely girls and wife of one supportive husband. We live in the beautiful Austrian countryside. I started scrapbooking in 2011 and soon discovered watercolors, mixed media, and art journaling, and fell instantly in love. Stamps and watercolors are some of my favorite tools and I enjoy coming up with creative ways of using them. I love sharing my projects and inspiring others on my YouTube channel, as well as teaching online classes.
Let’s check out Irit’s projects!
Hey everyone! Irit here, and I’m so excited to share with you 5 easy and fun techniques of using washi tape! Washi tape is such a versatile product and I love playing with it.
Let’s start with the most basic easy way of using it. Simply stick it down directly to your background, whether you are making a card, a scrapbook layout, or, like me, documenting memories in a Traveler’s Notebook, washi is such a great way of adding pattern! In the first example, I used Botanical Rhapsody and a touch of gold with the Golden Edge Washi Tape.
In the second project, I layered 3 washi tapes, making sure to vary colors and patterns. I used Painted Fantasy, Dotted, and Pastel Strokes Washi Tapes.
Next, I created some tip-ins. Tip-ins are basically any element added to your project, usually stuck down on one side, which allows you to hide/add more elements behind it. I like adding interactive pieces to my journals, they are so fun! This is so easy to do with washi tape, so make sure you watch the video for a step-by-step tutorial.
For the next technique, all you need to do is adhere your washi tape to a piece of paper; you can use any paper, simple copy paper will work great! For something more sturdy, go with cardstock. Once your washi tape is properly stuck down, we can fussy cut it. This works so well with Altenew’s floral washi tapes, like Botanical Rhapsody and Painted Fantasy.
Did you know you can easily punch washi tape? It’s true! Just stick it down to a piece of paper, and use your favorite punch! My personal go-to is tabs, I can add them to any project! You can see in the photo how I used the Dotted Washi Tape for my tab, and on the right side, I fussy cut a flower from the Botanical Rhapsody Washi Tape.
Last but not least, easy and so pretty, we can use washi tape to frame photos or any other element. For this purpose, one can’t go wrong with some golden bling, so I have to use Golden Edge. Simply add washi tape all over your chosen photo!
I have created a video tutorial so you can see how to create all these fun projects. Watch it below or over on Altenew’s YouTube channel.
I hope you feel inspired to try some of these techniques, or all of them with your washi tapes!
Thanks for stopping by and have a creative day!
