Hello, Altenew friends! Welcome to our second October 2019 Guest Designer post.
Our Guest Designer is another very special Altenew friend! She has been our Guest Designer TWICE in the past (January 2019, September 2018) and we thought, hey, third time's the charm! The amazingly talented Raquel Bowman is here once again to wow us with her gorgeous creation! A lover of layers, cut files, and clusters, she enjoys adding little details while still maintaining white space, balance and a cleanliness to her layouts. Can't get enough of her lovely work? Head over to her Instagram feed and prepare to get amazed!
Get to know Raquel!
Hey everyone, my name is Raquel Bowman. I am a 30 something primary school teacher, mummy to two kiddies (Jack, 4, and Charlotte, nearly 6) and wife to Clint, living in Geelong in Australia. I admit, I am pretty obsessed with scrapbooking and love nothing more than playing with a variety of papers and embellishments and making pretty stuff. I've been scrapping for around fourteen years now and feel I have finally ‘found’ my style. I am so grateful and honored to be able to represent some amazing brands and companies I love through this craft.
Let's check out Raquel's layout!
“Colorful Memories” Layout
To begin this layout, I cut one of the Live Your Dream Scrapbook Collection papers to 8.5″ x 11″ in size. I love the pop of color that a border around a layout gives and the framed look it provides.
I added some machine stitching around the edge of the layout to give it texture. Then I used some light modeling paste to add the Floral Mandala design onto my page. I love to use a white texture paste because I love the white on white look that stenciling brings. To add a pop of color to my white background, I applied some drops of a hot pink mist.
To frame my photo, I have used another piece of the Live Your Dream 12×12 Patterned Paper. I also wanted to add some more layers to this page so I included a doily from my stash and a black-and-white spotty paper from the Celebrations 6×6 Paper Pack.
The story behind the layout
I was quite an introverted child and I always worried about how others perceived me. I was the child that always hid in the corner, who didn’t speak and certainly didn’t air my views. But I am SO MUCH stronger now and try so hard to show my girl how to be strong and resilient. It’s a big journey but such a life lesson for her. I try to share this with her this daily but also in my scrapbooking and documenting of our life. My journaling on this page reflects this notion.
To embellish the page, I have used the wood veneer buttons from the Live Your Dream kit and some of the floral hearts from the wood veneer sheet.
The final touches to the layout were some Altenew enamel dots in pink and my journaling. It is rare to find a scrapbooking page that I create that does not contain a story or a message that I want to share as a Time Capsule or as a lesson to my children.
I hope you have been inspired by my layout today. It has been a pleasure being back on the Altenew blog. Be sure to check out the gorgeous creativity kits in the Altenew store.
Thank you so much for being our October Guest Designer and inspiring us with your lovely layout, Raquel! We loved the story behind it. We are looking forward to having you again!
