Hi Friends!
Today I am going to share a video tutorial on how to make a layered mixed media art journal page. The video tutorial will talk you through the whole process from start to finish! For my project, I chose products that were released this month: Spring Roses Die Set and Amazing Things Stamp Set. These were released in the June Stamp Release and the June Stand Alone Die Release. I dug through my stash to find older products, which I have had for a while but have never used! I decided on the Block Alpha Stamp set, because I love the look of bold text. This is a great mixed media project perfect for beginners. My video tutorial will talk you through the process explaining each step.

My challenge to you dear reader is: to try and think of new ways to use your products. This is because it will challenge you in fun and new ways! This is the heart of every mixed media project, learning how to experiment and find new uses for art and craft products!

Mixed media is when I feel the most free in my work. I always come away form the process having learnt something new as the results vary depending on the mediums used! Mixed media for beginners can be quite daunting. With practice, and confidence you can open your creativity to a whole new world of techniques!

Video Tutorial
I made a video tutorial on how I made this art journal page.
For more detailed instructions with voice-over, watch how I made this mixed media art journal page in the video below! Feel free to watch it on Altenew’s YouTube Channel HERE:
I started off using Watercolor Paper and chopped it down to 6 x 8 to fit into my art journal page. Then, start by scribbling through a stencil of your choice ( I am using Broken Chevron) as your initial layer. This is a good way to break into a blank page when you're creating.

Gradually add the rest of your layers (I used die cuts, book text and the Tropical Fiesta Watercolor Brush Markers). Most importantly, you need to dry your layers before adding a new one! I complete the art journal page with the flower from the Amazing Things Stamp set (as those drips are gorgeous!). The stamp sentiment that I cut by hand is made using the Block Alpha Stamp Set. After that, I use Obsidian Pigment Ink, therefore the eye automatically focuses on the centre of the page.

I hope that you all enjoyed the video tutorial and my projects. You can check out more of my mixed media projects and videos by clicking here. If you have any questions, please do leave a comment on the video or on the blog. Take care and have a great day!

I enjoyed your video very much Tania! And I’ve learnt much from it, thanks!!
Wonderful video! Inspired me to try more mixed media projects. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Lovely project! Thank you for the great tutorial!
Such a beautiful page! I appreciate seeing mixed media pages in process videos like this – it gives me courage to just let go and embrace the organic creative process and see what transpires. I appreciate you mentioning a couple of times that after you left and came back to it that you opted to add a little detail here or there. Simple concept to walk away, but such a freeing reminder – it doesn’t have to be completed to my satisfaction in one session! 🙂
