Get to know Tasha
It’s Tasha from @HandmadeByTasha13, and I am here today sharing some inspiration and encouragement to explore what mixed media really means.
Today, I’m working on a double-page spread in my art journal, and I will be using a variety of techniques & mediums to create a visual diary entry.
I have never given much thought to what my favorite color is, but recently I’ve begun to realize that I so often gravitate to blues & teals, as I did again here. To balance the color palette and make that blue pop even more, I added touches of vibrant pink, and I love the combination of these together.
I made a promise to myself that I will never take a page out of this journal, so I always remind myself that if I don’t like what I have made on there, it’s because it just isn’t finished yet.
So what does Mixed Media even mean?
It just means that you have used more than one medium in your creation.
It doesn’t have to be messy; it doesn’t have to be anything that you don’t want it to. Once you think of it in these terms, then the prospect of exploring doesn’t seem so far out of reach.
So, you stamp some images and color them with your Artist Markers or watercolor pan sets; that is mixed media. Add some embossing on your sentiment and you are doing pretty great!
In this tutorial video, I explore:
- Using Altenew Crisp Dye Re-inkers to get custom colored Gouache or Acrylic paint and embossing paste.
- Using my stencils and stamps to add texture to the page.
- Using the Metallic Watercolor Pan Set to paint die-cuts in a variety of metallic colors that suit my designs.
- Using a label maker to print custom sentiments, quotes, or even lyrics. Anything that I feel works for the visual diary entry I am creating.
