Adding Dimension to Paper Crafting Projects (+Video Tutorial)

by Nathalie

Hello Crafty friends! It is Nathalie here to share a new idea on adding dimension to paper crafting projects.   We all love admiring levels, dimension, and depth in projects;  well today I want to show you how you can achieve maximum dimension using  Pigment inks and the Frilly Peonies 3d Embossing folder.   The detail in the flowers of the embossing folder is so delicate and intricate, but perfect for the technique.

The Frilly Peonies 3D Embossing Folder creates a beautiful dimensional impression.  However, I want to emphasize the details of the die by adding depth to the impression.  I am able to achieve this using this design ideas:

COLOR COORDINATION

I am using a family of colors to bring the details of the embossed image.  In this case, I embossed a piece of pink colored cardstock.   My choice to add Frosty Pink Pigment Ink and Coral Berry Pigment Ink to the embossing folder ( before sandwiching the cardstock inside) is the first step to emphasizing the depth of the embossed area.    Adding extra ink – by means of shading the inside of the embossed areas just makes all the details pop.  The darker shades just bring the dimension and detail forward.

COLOR CONTRAST

I am using a background patterned paper that features the shades of pink in it.  However, I am choosing to frame the embossed paper strip  with green cardstock.  This small  color contrast makes the embossed areas that much more visible.  The small leaves (Just Leaves Dies Set) add movement, but also drive your eye through the embossed details.

MIX IN TEXTURES

The different cardstocks used for the title work are the perfect way to  showcase the dimension of the page.   The Glitter Cardstock letters ( Caps Bold Alpha Die Set) brings shine to the page, but also sits atop the embossed areas, thus creating a soft shadow on the page.     I repeat the texture idea on the journal card by fussy cutting the embossed flower, then adding to a flat journal card.  I have created a video that will show you how this all came together.
