Get to know Joy

Hey there, my crafty friends. I am Joylita D’Souza, an avid card maker. Though I love making cards, I occasionally do make DIY home decor and enjoy making various unique projects. Altenew’s products have been my favorite since I first came across them in my card-making journey. I have always loved how unique and stunning each of their products is. Needless to say, I am extremely thrilled and honored to be a guest designer at the Altenew Mixed Media Blog. Since this project is so special and close to my heart, I wanted it to be something that I hadn’t tried before. After brainstorming for some time, I came up with my today’s project – a night scene at the beach. I hope my project inspires you, and I can’t wait to see your beautiful creations.

I traced the outer circle of the hoop on a watercolor sheet and then fussy cut it. Next, I die cut the moon from a masking sheet and stuck it on the watercolor panel. I then inked the sky with Tide Blue, Ultraviolet, Azurite, Jet Black, and Fresh Lemon Crisp Dye Inks using my mini blending brushes.

To create the stars, I splattered water on the panel and dabbed off the excess using a paper towel. After that, I splattered Sterling Silver Metallic Watercolour and white gouache to create more stars. Next, I die cut three circles from white cardstock and stuck them together using precision glue. Then I stamped the detailed layer from the Mini Moon Stamp Set using Citrus Burst Crisp Dye Ink and stuck it on the panel.

Next, I die cut the mountains from watercolor cardstock using the Mountain Builder Die Set. To color and add texture to the die cuts, I mixed the embossing paste with Minty Mint, Hunter Green, Just Green Crisp Dye Ink re-inkers and applied it using a palette knife.

While the mountains were drying, I traced a little more than half of the inner circle of the hoop on a watercolor sheet and fussy cut it. Next, I mixed Espresso Watercolour with embossing paste and applied it to the panel. Then I smooshed Espresso Crisp Dye Ink on my work surface, mixed it with Textured Sand, and dabbed the sand on the embossing paste.

To create the waves, I applied a thick layer of embossing paste on the panel. Then I used the palette knife to add texture. Next, I randomly put drops of Turquoise, Tide Blue, Aqualicious, and Starlight Crisp Dye Ink re-inkers on it and sprayed water using the mister bottle to blend the colors. After the panel was dry, I used a round brush and added shadows using Aqualicious and Starlight Crisp Dye Inks. After the ink dried, I added embossing paste on the waves to create the foam. Next, I stuck the shells on the sand to add more dimension.

Once all the panels were dry, I assembled them using foam tape.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you have a fabulous day.
