Annemarie's Floral Layout with Layering Stencils

Hello, crafty friends!

I am so excited to be Guest Designing for the Altenew Mixed Media Blog today. I decided to create a scrapbook layout and demonstrate how you can use layering stencils to create gorgeous flowers and leaves.

I am really enjoying using the new Altenew Mixed Media Inks. They are so juicy, silky, and luscious and make ink blending and coloring layering stencils a breeze.

Stencils

The inspiration for my layout came from a piece of scrapbook paper I’ve had in my stash for a few years. I wanted to create a wreath of colorful flowers.

I wanted to tone down the background a little, so I used Embossing Paste and a spatula to add paste through the Woven Stencil in random places.

I then added black and gold paint splatters using black mixed media ink and Antique Gold Pigment Ink.

StencilsWhile this was drying, I stenciled and fussy cut lots and lots of flowers and leaves from the Greenwood Flowers Layering Stencils, Rose Mellow Layering Stencils, and Hill Blossom Layering Stencils. I used Mixed Media inks in the following colors: Frosty Pink, Coral Berry, Ruby Red, Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, Evergreen, Buttercream, Warm Sunshine, Arctic, Caribbean Sky, and Persian Blue. I heat set each layer before moving on to the next layer. I then fussy cut all the flowers and leaves – I love doing this!

Next, I chose a photo that I printed in greyscale to contrast the rest of the very colorful layout. I added Instant Dimension Foam Tape to the back of each flower and leaf, added some foam core to the back of the photo, and took some time to arrange the flowers in a wreath carefully.

A black sentiment die-cut from the You Matter Die Set was placed next to the photo. Finishing touches include Metallic Gold Thread tied into a bow and some Antique Gold Sequins scattered around the layout.
