Hello Altenew friends!
Nathalie with you today to show you the how-to of combining texture and color in memory keeping for a truly one-of-a-kind project. I am using Altenew's new Craft Your Life Project Kit: Silk Art for this project, as it contains a 3D Embossing Folder, a simple stamp set, a die set, and a layering coloring stencil. All these pieces make it so easy to create texture and color, but most importantly give you the ability to personalize your project. Let me show you today's project:
The best way to describe how combining texture and color in memory keeping is to think of building your project in layers. This helps you to have a better sense of what you want to bring forward as the focus of your page, thus resulting in a balanced page. Let's take a closer look at the page:
-
Texture
The new Craft Your Life Project Kit: Silk Art 3D Embossing Folder is the perfect means to add texture to your memory keeping layouts. The soft details it creates in the page just adds a subtle shadow that softly adds a delicate edge to the page.
I am choosing to just embossed the top and bottom sides of one page, and only using a small corner of the embossing folder. This two embossed edges naturally create a frame for my photo. The addition of a few drops of Metallic Watercolor 14 Pan Set just around the embossed areas helps to accent the texture of the page.

Color
Now that we have already analyze our first -bottom layer- part of combining texture and color in memory keeping. It is time to chat about how you can truly personalize your projects. For my project, I am using the new Craft Your Life Project Kit: Silk Art Coloring stencil and die set to bring the floral elements to live. My choice to go for a monochromatic look helps to showcase how easily you can also create dimension with ink through the stencil set.
I chose to create my flowers outside of the layout, that way I am able to attach them to the page as a top layer. By having flowers die cuts, I am able to layer pieces of them, and also to connect /elongate the design so that the two page layout reads as unified and balance page. I recorded my process, so you can see how this comes together. You can watch the layout come together here, or in Altenew YouTube Channel in HD:

Neutral pops of color
When you are combining texture and color in memory keeping always be mindful of what you want to showcase in your page. For me, the picture is what the page is all about! So, I am choosing to transform it to black and white to make it stand out on the page. I am using black once again in my typed journal, and then add it to the title. These three spots flow nicely in the page, as they form a visual triangle. In addition, I am making sure that the color of the flowers also frames the photo that helps to balance the entire page, as they create a nice flow through the two page spread.
I hope this has helped you to give you some insight on combining texture and color in memory keeping. I cannot wait to see how you will use this idea for your next project!
See you all soon!
