Create Custom Made Patterned Papers Using Stencils

by Lilith Eeckels

Hello, Altenew Fans!

I haven't bought patterned paper in a while, so when I went to look through my stash, I felt very uninspired. I saw some stencils waiting to be put away and thought I could use those to create my own custom paper with the colors I wanted, which is exactly what I did.

Create custom patterned paper

To create this layout, I used two stencils and various ink colors.

Inks:

  • Shades of Purple
  • Fresh Lemon (Pocketful of Sunshine Crisp Dye Inks)
  • Turquoise (Sweet Dreams Crisp Dye Inks)
  • Sweat Leaf (Green Meadows Crisp Dye Inks)
  • Pinkalicious (Cherry Blossom Crisp Dye Inks)

These two stencils are very different and will create great contrast between lines and curves.

How to:

  1. Take two pieces of cardstock.
  2. Place the stencils on the cardstock and apply your favorite colors. I opted for a soft pastel rainbow look for the Beach Towel Stripes Stencil and picked pinks and purples for the Doily Frame Stencil. Use a smaller blending brush for more precision.
  3. Cut out around the edges of the Doily Frame Stencil.
  4. Place your “patterned paper” on the layout and add embellishments. I used flower die-cuts from the Enjoy the Ride Bouquet Builder Ephemera sets. I turned them around to use the white side as the colors didn't fit. A bit of doodling around the edges and a button in the middle finish the embellishments.
