Hello friends! Today, we will introduce you to our August Guest Designer, Sue Busada, who completed her AECP certification this year and has already hosted a couple of workshops since then!

If you attend Altenew virtual workshops, you must have seen her smiley face. We personally love her sense of humor and her witty blog post titles! Sue will show you how to create a beautiful DIY pocket today! But first, let's hear it from Sue.

Get to know Sue

I’ve been a stamper for 20+ years, starting by embossing gift tags in my oven. I have a clean and simple style and love creating home decor items. I found Altenew many years ago, and I never looked back once I purchased Vintage Roses. I received my AECP Certification in January 2022 and was excited to be the 50th Educator!

By day, I am a Social Media consultant and spend nights and weekends in my studio, making my heart happy by creating pretty things. I’m a mom to four-legged kids, and my Corgi, Buster, makes occasional appearances on my Instagram feed.

I live in Northern Virginia and am always looking to meet local crafters for “playdates”. You can check out my blog, Instagram, and Facebook.

Sue's DIY Pocket of Love

I have a friend going through a tough time, so I thought I send a little DIY pocket of love and inspirational thoughts.

I cut a library pocket from Winter Clouds Cardstock and gave it a light spray from Iridescent Shimmer Ink Spray. I decorated the front with 3 diagonal strips of Gold Foil Polka Dot Washi Tape and a vellum strip with one of the terrific sentiments from the Monsteras & Quotes Stamp Set.

I cut the Mini Flower Cluster Die Set from Shades of Purple Gradient Cardstock and made a messy nest from Enchanted Gold Metallic Thread. I used Instant Dimension Foam Tape dots to pop up the flowers and hold down the thread and vellum strip.

I decided to make 4 inserts, all 2.5” wide, and cut the height to 6.5”, 6”, 5.5”, and 5”.

I stamped the sentiments from the following stamp sets: Seasonal Booms (from the Craft Your Life Kit Collection), Monsteras and Quotes, Morning Flowers, and Note for You in Deep Iris Crisp Dye ink.

Using Lavender Fields ink and the Large Ink Blending Brush, I ink blended the areas at the top and bottom of each insert.

I used the same Gold Polka Dot Washi Tape across the top and bottom of each insert to tie them to the pocket.

They still needed something, so I added some yellow ribbon at the top of each, turning them into bookmarks or tags. Why yellow? First, they are across the color wheel from one another; second, it ties back to the yellow centers of the flowers on the pocket; and third, it’s one of my favorite color combinations!

I hope you enjoyed this, and I hope my friend does too!

This looks incredible, Sue! We are sure your pocket of love will bring a smile to your friend's face! Thank you so much for being our guest designer this month. We hope you will be our guest again in the near future!

Everyone, please let Sue know in the comments below how thoughtful and sweet her project is. You can also hop over to her social media channels and blog. Thank you for reading!
