Hello crafty friends!
It's Nathalie with you today to share a few ideas on adding elegant touches to memory-keeping projects. This time, I am using the new Intricate Tiles 3D Embossing Folder as the starting point for my page.
The design and detail in the folder create a beautiful and repetitive pattern. This can easily be used as a background as well as a highlight in your memory-keeping layout.
Let's take a look at the layout.
The combination of the embossed pieces and the soft floral images just elevated the spread. But, let's take a closer look at how you can go about adding touches of elegance to memory-keeping:
Start with Texture
Texture is the magical word in this spread. There are different textures combined in the spread.
First, we have the embossed images (Intricate Tiles 3D Embossing Folder), followed by the soft embossed images of the Precious Peony Stamp Set in the florals.
The key to having the different textures work in the spread is layering and contrast. The different materials used for each of the layers help to enhance the visual effect of each piece in the spread.
Add a Bit of Shine
One of the best ways to add elegant touches to memory-keeping projects is by adding some glitz and shine.
Once again, I added this in three different ways to the spread.
First, I used Enchanted Gold, Pigment Ink, and Antique Gold Pigment Ink to the embossed cardstock. The soft gold shine in the background highlights the design of the Intricate Tiles 3D Embossing Folder.
Next, I am using Gold Vellum to create the floral embellishments for this spread. The Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder added a bit of texture to the soft shine of the paper.
Finally, I am using Brushed Gold Metallic Cardstock and the Celebrate with Cake Die Set to create the embellishments for the page.
Layering Is Key
As we mentioned previously, layering is key in adding elegant touches to memory-keeping projects.
In this case, I am using different degrees of texture to help me define the layering in this spread; heavy embossed pieces as a bottom layer, followed by the embossed vellum, and finishing with the smooth cardstock in the title (Brushed Gold Metallic Cardstock, Greatest Blessings Stamp Set).
With the aid of foam adhesive, I created a soft separation on the layers, which also added to enhance the overall tactile effect of the spread.
Contrast and Repetition
Let's start with contrast; in this case, I am using navy, gold, and white as the main colors in the spread.
These are contrasting and complementary colors. But this classic combination is just rich in contrasting tones that just bring elegance to the page. By defining my palette, I also made sure that it repeats on the page.
Remember, 3 is the magic number.
Negative Space Is a Good Thing
One last key to adding elegant touches to memory-keeping projects is allowing plenty of negative space on the page.
In this case, I am using small pieces of each of the embossed/texture surfaces, hiding my journal and extra photos, and opting for smaller embellishments in order to prevent overcrowding on the page.
All that white space gives the viewer time to appreciate each piece carefully.
You can watch this page come together in the following video. You can watch it at Altenew's YouTube Channel.
I hope this gives you a better idea of how the page was created and set you on adding elegant touches to memory-keeping projects or other paper crafting projects of your choice. Cannot wait to see what you create!
